Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal Wild Tepextate
An extraordinary expression of Oaxacan craftsmanship, Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal Wild Tepextate is a testament to the resilience and complexity of the wild Tepextate agave. Known for its long maturation—often taking up to 25 years to reach full maturity—this rare agave variety produces a mezcal that is both bold and intensely aromatic, with a distinctive, herbaceous character.
Crafted using time-honored artisanal methods, this mezcal is made from hand-harvested wild Tepextate, roasted in underground earthen pits, naturally fermented, and distilled in small copper stills. The result is a spirit of remarkable depth, featuring vibrant green and floral notes, complemented by rich layers of spice, earth, and minerality.
On the nose, it opens with fresh herbs, white flowers, and tropical fruit, intertwined with hints of black pepper and wet stone. The palate is bold yet balanced, offering flavors of roasted agave, jalapeño, anise, and citrus peel, underscored by a subtle smokiness. The finish is long, complex, and warming, leaving behind notes of peppery spice, sweet earth, and lingering minerality.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Fresh herbs, white flowers, tropical fruit, black pepper, wet stone
- Palate: Roasted agave, jalapeño, anise, citrus peel, subtle smoke
